An immersive installation experience that will delight the whole family!
This spring, bring your family and friends to meet The Cats that Slept for a Thousand Years at the Harbourside Lawn.
The immersive installation features a family of three giant, inflatable, robotic sleeping cats – up to 10m long – who respond to your presence and touch. Feel free to stroke them or lean against their soft bodies and see what happens – maybe you will see a tail twitch or hear them purr!
Nobody knows where the cats came from. But we do know that they have been asleep for a very, very long time, and that they welcome kind human companionship as they doze!
The Cats that Slept for a Thousand Years is a magical experience specially created for WestK FunFest by Air Giants from UK, an art studio making some of the world’s largest, and most adorable, soft robots.
Located at a perfect photo spot near the harbour, the installation encourages us to think about the long-term future in a playful way, touching on themes of care, responsibility and our capacity for empathy. The work was originally commissioned by Manchester Museum, part of the University of Manchester. The installation in the Art Park has been specially expanded from a single cat to two cats and a kitten – creating a special FunFest cat family. Come along and meet them!
